I'm impressed Nick and so I looked it up on the net:
www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/c/a/2008/05/24/MNU210SLMJ.DTL&o=0&type=health

Tumour in temple was reportedly 2.2 millimeters thick and with the above photo he has had a rotation flap skin graft from his neck to cover his parotidectomy and wider local excision of the temple melanoma. He was lymph node negative and had no further treatment after surgery. He also had a melanoma removed in 1993 and a second primary melanoma predicts a lower chance of recurrence not higher. At 8 years the chance of recurrence is very low (less than 5%)

A lot lower than Kevin Rudd's homograft aortic root replacement failing in the next 3 years.....

The disfigurement is actually caused by an associated superficial parotidectomy (salivary gland in the cheek with many lymph nodes just in front of the ear) following removal of a melanoma skin cancer from his temple in 2000. The area in front of his ear is scalloped in on the operated side. The "thing" is probably the fuller normal side. The disfigurement is permanent but of no significance.

John, I'd much rather have unease than the full-blown panic that is emanating from the McCain campaign.

'..What Obama did say...what he should have said.." This has been a constant theme of Rundle's and it conveys to me a commentator who feels very uneasy about the Demcocrats campaign. I share his unease.

ahhh... thanks james. another one of the myriad health "problems" he's got, eh? i'm impressed by your knowledge of his medical history but i guess it's a fairly obvious anomaly that can't be glossed over. from the look of the site on his face, the thickness of the lesion may have been significant, which is an indicator of possible recurrence and severity. it's the possibility of recurrence, it's significance and prognosis and the other conditions he has that i want to know about, but which he refuses to share with the electorate...
Rundle's version of what should have been said is better and Obama did seem excessively careful and hesitant but he did nevertheless come across as reasonably calm and presidential. McCain, however, looked like a drama queen who was play-acting the announcement of war on Russia before descending into the bunker. I don't think anyone will be able to use the word 'bipartisan' with a straight face ever again after his incredible brutalisation of the term.
McCain increasingly comes across as an old man in a hurry. He is seeing the Presidency he has always dreamed of possessing float beyond his reach and frets every hour about miracle stratagems to get it back within his grasp. However, there are no miracle stratagems, only wily old ploys so poorly implemented that they immediately smell like cynical tricks.
We are seeing here a campaign in the hyper-manic phase that precedes collapse.
The plain fact is that McCain is too old to withstand the huge pressures of modern campaigning. He is also too old to withstand the pressures of the Presidency (as was Reagan, at least in his second term). This will be the last time a candidate who is as physiologically aged as McCain is will ever be nominated for the Presidency by a major party. McCain has refused to release his medical records - he knows there is a problem but is refusing to reveal the truth to the American people.

Does anyone else think Hank Paulson is just tailor made for a role in Zimbabwe?

Increasingly, your reports are scaring the hell out of me. Great reading though.

Twitter is onto the suspension in a big and funny way -- its users have responded to the decision by John McCain to suspend his campaigning with an ad hoc campaign of their own.
http://goodgearguide.com.au/index.php/id;1823349553
