Comical because it is such a contrast with the public statements by the Obama team and their supporters, like Rundle and esteemed Crikey readers like Birchall, Sanderson et al, who keep saying Palin is nothing, just a 'religious fundamentalist blip' on the horizon, a small town non-entity. You get the picture of the sheer terror gripping the Left as, to quote Charles Krauthammer from the Washington Post Writers Group ,"the United States Democrats.." realise that " in a presidential race impossible to lose, they're behind." Cheney is the exception that proves the rule. This is a reflection of the US presidential system rather than a criticism of the person occupying the chair. I don't know about "the sheer terror gripping the Left" but, speaking for myself, I'm certainly not terrified of a McCain victory. I would prefer Obama to win but I accept he may not. I think that the power of the President to make paradigm changes is, in practice, severely constrained, whoever is in power.
