Dave,
Fair bite of the apple: I'm one of those unfortunate people who live in the electorate of Higgins. Every day I either walk past or drive past his princely office. Incidentally it's a very large office, and I've only seen him once in the past 2.5 years. Occasionally I see a staff member going in. And, up until I rang the office and put a stop to the practice, I would receive some of his v. expensive promotions. The day he even turns up to the office will be the day. As a Labor voter, and as a human being, I am very, very, anti -Peter Costello; his unctuous pride in himself, and his infamous smirk, remind me every day of the rotten, corrupt, stinking, racist political riff raff of a so called political party lead by that little poison-dwarf, John, the toad, Howard: together with my knowing it is my money which is being used to support a wanker like Peter Costello. I grind my teeth when I think of that angular arse-hole, the misanthropic monster, and I raise my hand in a silent salute, to the elderly gentleman, who prior to the last election, threw a dozen eggs at Peter Costello's office windows. When the wallopers were asking had anyone see the perp. I didn't say a word.
What a beautiful scan of worms to comment upon. Malcolm Turnbull' needs to move quickly! Well i believe he can, and as for Brendon changing his mind about supporting wrinkle’s like me, what about Keating , the great believer in a form of the GST, who lost his balls and delayed it's implementation purely on ideological grounds..That decision has ultimately led to the lack of revenue to support those who did sacrificed a lot more than most current commentators will ever do..
We live in the era of cheesy smiles, good looks, and there for in many cases no brains. If you really do believe we would be better off served by some of the air heads on the current soapies, then you do need to take more medication. I personally believe Peter Costello would have made a good Prime Minister. But again it was more to do with public perceptions. But remember it takes a team to get results, if you picked you favorite footy captain on his good looks and eclectic personality, you would in most cases be backing a losing team for ever.
and why would you presume most aged pensioners are opposition supporters, I did not think you lived longer because you had more brains, most of us so called rednecks are supposed to be so over fed we will not live as long as the true workers of course, or maybe it is the stress that had bumped most off the red necks off, working 7 days a week ,worrying about the responsibility they have for the true workers of course, as they try and hold onto their home that is often mortgaged to the hilt.
Yes I do believe the pension should have been increased earlier, but what hypocrisy when the current Government realized this, and also believed a lot more than a $30.00 was required. Pensions have not kept pace for a long time; there have been many so called essential increases for the workers to survive, but what about the ex-workers.
As the leadership debate in the Libs coasts along (with or without Cossie), the participation of Sen Minchin in the deeds should not be discounted. This former leader and tricks organiser of the Howard dirt brigade, leading up to last years election, has been the puppet master behind the scenes for Dr Nelson. There is no way Minchin wants Turnbull in charge, gone will be his ability to pull the strings and organise the Libs by default. He is a hit and run trooper, never one to stand up and dish it out face to face, too much like copping one back. Watching Minchin expound his doctrine reminds one of a person talking from an orafice that is not attached to his face. Who was the proponant of knocking back the luxury car tax I wonder?

Yet another wooden top polly, Kev, Mal, Brenno twiddling at the controls of power, more stuffed shirts and pressed suits sucking at the million dollar trough of ministerial superannuation in return for 10 second sound bites signifying nothing

If it was the last day on earth my choice would be to take great pleasure in popping off as many as I could, in between sucks on a decent bottle of Shiraz

If I was Nelson I'd be zeroing in on the former NSW Labor apparatchiks who now "run" Rudds office with unnerving similarity to the way NSW government has and continues to be conducted. What this 1 billion dollar hole that the new NSW premiere Rees has revealed confirms is that Labor cant run a lemonade stand. That old adage, "Labor cant manage money", is all too true. Shades of Joan Kirner!
NSW is an economic basket case. And Swan is well on his way to achieving a similar record.

The mainstream media seems uninterested in, or is unaware of, the sensational disclosure by Jeff Sharlot on The Religion Report recently, that Peter Costello has been involved in the shadowy and intensely anti-democratic American Protestant sect called "The Family". Formed in the 1930's to fight unionism, it has been described as the Protestant Opes Dei. It's fundamentalist leader Doug Coe has praised the methods used by Mao, Hitler and Stalin. With all the hoopla about Costello at the moment, I would have thought that these strange friends of his from the US might rate a mention and perhaps further journalistic investigation.

In fairness to Cossie, let's not bag him for NOT resignign from Parliament and costing voters a six-figure by-election. If and when he does resign outside the normal electoral cycle he deserves criticism, but for the time-being he's still the local MP for Higgins, a job which he's probably putting more energy into than any previous time in his Parliamentary career. A high profile backbencher is a good asset for an electorate to have.

Fair enough Venise, but given that Higgins is always going to return Liberal MPs who aren't Petro Georgio I'd have thought that Costello's (or his staff's) capacity to get service issues resolved for constituents would be better than most of the other snoozers you're likely to get as your local MP. I've worked for influential MPs and I've worked for less influential MPs and the difference is clear. And I genuinely applaud that old bloke too. Radio comedian Tony Martin describes how he was discussing with countryman John Clarke how every time he drives past Costello's electorate office glaziers are replacing the windows, and how this was a suggestion about the community's views. Clarke replied "You're assuming the bricks are being thrown from the outside!"
