From overland in the east Carpenter comes across as a clean skin who tried to do a Beattie without quite campaigning hard enough against his own party perhaps in the campaign proper. Maybe he didn't have the scar tissue that Beattie had to pull it off. As for taking advice moral or otherwise from NCB or Brian Burke, well that is unlikely.

Bitter or resentment? With a media career like that? A good looking wife? The top job at a youngish age. That's projection if you ask me. Even good people get done over in politics - all the way back to Doug Lowe as Tas Premier and the Franklin River. Life isn't fair, expecting it to be so is even worse. Best to roll with 'em Alan.

"Carpenter's early election call a fatal mistake" - Noel Crichton-Browne. Why do you keep giving oxygen to this exasperating windbag? If you must, then in the interests of balance, how about equal space for Brian Burke? Neither deserve a platform for their has-been bile, and I for one don't want to hear what either has to say.

Edward Green - I disagree. Noel’s comments on the WA election have been spot on (and much better than most of the tripe on Crikey regarding WA politics). Indeed, the electoral result tends to confirm what he has been writing. That you choose to play the man and not criticise his article is telling!
