It is a tedious business responding to climate change naysayers like Tamas Calderwood. It is unfortunately necessary, if the general populous is ever going to accept the measures necessary to reign in greenhouse pollution. Tamas claims there is little evidence to suggest humans are causing global warming. Only Tamas ,if you ignore four IPCC reports and ignore advice from scientific bodies ranging from NASA to the CSIRO. Forget about C02 as a pollutent if we ever got to to your 0.01 concentration our goose would be cooked anyway. Assuming that you accept CO2 is a greenhouse gas, tell everybody the CO2 concencentrations you and other naysayers would recklessly and selfishly inflict on future generations with your do nothing wait and see approach. Human activity is currently increasing CO2 levels by 3 parts per million annually. We are well on target to reach what scientists referr to as a tipping point or dangerous climate change by mid century. The Holocene Optimum is too far back to be making claims as to what catasrophes did or didn't occurr. The Medieval Warm Period was confined to the Northern Hemisphere and climate reconstructions going back 1000 years show it was not as warm as recent decades. Only those devoid of ethics and morality would see it as "awfully utopian" to want to pass on a world as we found it to those who come after us.

Predictably pathetic effort by Richard McGuire.

If plants and animals stop emitting CO2 then they are dead.

Try Biology 101 prior pontificating on paleontology

Weird claim Les Heimann with your "my guess is McCain's done it again an'. What again ?. He lost the last nomination to George Bush and in his 72 years hasn't achieved much except getting re-elected. in a safe seat. Even his attempt to get the Feds off the back of the notorious Keating 5 was a failure and his "war veteran" status was spent in a Viet Cong clink. Even that has most ex-Viet vets convinced he ratted out on them.

A bold or desperate choice -take your pick- but with Sarah Palin having so many skeletons about to leap from the closet and only 7 weeks to defuse them, McCain may have well done it again-doomed himself. I predict the very very conservatives will not vote for Obama but neither McCain / Palin-they'll simply stay home. People confuse the Evangelicals with the hypocrtical politicians whose seek their vote. They actually believ in this stuff (whereas the pollies don't) and they won't like a Mum with an un-wed pregnant daughter and all the other things yet to come out.
Mr K, time remind you and other readers of this effort by you in this forum on September 1st. "if we stop pumping out CO2 and other greenhouse gases in perpetuity, know that at that point we shall all be dead....CO2 is essential for photosynthesis and life." Er life forms including plants were around for millions of years before we started pumping out CO2 Mr K. With that level of scientific literacy, I think you're in no position Mr K , to be slagging off at NASA or the IPCC.

Well done Tamas Calderwood. You continue to provide sane, reasoned and obviously knowledgeable defense to sometimes fervent, both ill and well informed criticism.

The political hijacking by the IPCC and NASA's Hansen of what should be a scientific debate makes it more and not less difficult to formulate a sane international response.

This whole debate followed a comment by Calderwood in response yet another negative and artless article by Mayne. I have enjoyed following it.
