Most athletes live hand to mouth on the poverty line, parents and friends support and indulge them for years while team Coates, Gosper et al, strutt the world sports stage like the sporting kulaks that they have become and do so in seven star opulence that would make a Maharajah blush. Masters and Servants? Sporting feudality? Who is kidding who? Oh and no I am no Marxist, far from it.

I am wondering where these future elite athletes are going to develop their early sporting skills in the planning culture under the NSW Planning Minister Mr Sartor who turns a blind eye (I am being polite) to the selling of valuable sport and recreation land for his severely compromised urban consolidation. Urban consolidation is supposed to include public space, recreation and sporting facilities, public transport, schools, hospital ... all those amenities that human beings, future citizens and sport people need particularly in areas of high density. Instead Minister Sartor compromises urban planning , by forcing shoddy developments for quick profits without these public amenities. Just ask the residents living in the high rise precincts of Hornsby and Waitara where their nearest patch of green space is. We need funding for mass-participation in sport far more that funding elites, and it starts with good urban planning which is not compromised.
