"No need to be snide"?! Snide?! Given that rural Australia is being continuously screwed over by Telstra monopoly, I think ihatenextg has been the model of restraint and decorum, and that poor Adam is probably a bit thankful for having something relatively entertaining to read for once - I'm sure it makes a nice change from the usual stream of expletives that Telstra forces him to deal with.

Unfortunately in most cases the employees answering these sort of enquiries are not technicians. They are customer service representatives that are following a set procedure laid out by Telstra.

Also, in the chain of command poor Adam is about 3 positions removed from anyone who can actually push for anything to happen (not that they'd admit to anything being wrong, they're all petrified of paying compensation) and then about another 6 removed from senior management.

Keep hassling him for answers sure, but there's no need to be snide.

At the risk of upsetting mickazee any further, the problem with this Next G arrangement is that we can't move on. If you live or work in regional Australia you have no choice. As frustrating as it is having phones and internet connections constantly drop out, it gets really problematic when trying to run equipment remotely eg irrigation, water valves etc which was very easy with CDMA.
It doesn't matter whether you are in regional areas or in the city, the signal fluctuates all over the place and constantly drops out. I wish Adam well...after many months trying to get somewhere with Telstra I got absolutely nowhere. I wish Conroy would grow a pair and do his job.

Canberra is dominated by the Telstra tower. You can see it from my house. Even with this tower in sight, Next G dros out. Not regularly, but often enough to be annoying - about once every hour of talk time. I am a Weeken or weekdays 18.00 to 23.00 customer, so I don't know about business hours.

I can understand and sympathise with your dropout problem, but then I saw your system stats: Windows NT??
Yeah it's a robust and stable operating system - if you 're living in the 20th century!
For the love of god, get ME (or XP if you can find it) and see what happens then.
I have and still use a Dell Optiplex 100GX running NT in my office, but it has ethernet and doesn't have to rely on the vagaries of wireless broadband.

I have to say I really don't understand why this is on Crikey, this guy is dealing with what is of course a real problem for him by dealing aggressively and rudely with a consultant trying to do his job. As if he's allowed to send emails to customers that don't follow that template?! ihatenextg refuses to try any of the solutions offered, and doesn't seem to have called up to make any kind of official complaint, just keeps bullying someone who really can't change the coverage in his rural area. I get that he's frustrated but that's no excuse for beating up on someone and generally being a jerk.

NEWSFLASH: Some random has problems with his Telstra NextG connection and contacts tech support acting like an asshole. The product doesn't work for you so get a refund and move on.

Why is this even on Crikey?
