Leaving soon, Graham Edwards was a double amputee who retired from the Federal Parliament last year. Graeme Campbell has all his limbs, but he may have had significant sections of his brain amputated.

Get over yourself Paul Collier, what's your point? The answer to your first question is, they're probably in a parliament somewhere. Leaving aside the obvious dysfunction of so many politicians and cheap jibes about Bill Heffernan (go on, tell me he's fully functional) I'm thinkin' Graeme Campbell (double amputee) Tim Fischer (father of autistic children). Nick Sherry, Geoff Gallop, John Brogden (near fatal depression) probably qualify as part of your nebulous 20%.

I don't know what proportion of our elected reps are disabled and I bet you don't either but nearly half the Territory's population is indigenous and/or female so these are good places to start trying to correct disproportionate white male representation. The election of black women into any parliament in Australia is a GOOD thing.

Oh and as for the tele, ABC's Adam Hills(one foot), Neighbours characters Susan Kinski (ABI, MS) and Didge Parker (road accident trauma) seem to be on the tele a bit and there was Chris Lilley's various creations and so on... Maybe not enough by your measure but hardly invisible.

And a bit of disclosure about your political activities and motivations wouldn't go astray either.

Tamas Calderwood's stirring speech about democracies coming to the defence of plucky little Georgia etc would be more inspiring if anyone had come to the aid of Georgia. No-one has, and their NATO application was knocked back because western europe was terrified that they might have to come to Georgia's defence. The US has sent aid, purely for domestic consumption, so that US troops can be seen landing somewhere. Russia has done exactly what it liked, and nobody's done a thing. Looks like Putin read the west pretty accurately, eh, Tamas ?

Tamas Calderwood's statememt about sums it up : " their fat, lazy citizens won't lift a finger to help places like Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and now Georgia.". They didn't in Georgia and they won't need to in the others Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia as they become part of the US's "shield" making a circle around Russia.

Clearly the US needs a new "enemy" and it looks like the Cold War is starting all over again as the phoney "war on terror" crumbles with Iraq debacle. Always handy to have a new enemy on hand to keep your own citizens under control.

Unless of course Calderwood knows otherwise and the west has sailed into South Ossetia with guns blazing to help the citizens there. Perhaps that explains the 2000 Israeli & US "advisors" assisting Georgia in it's attempt to keep South Ossetia from breaking away. Yet again the media has utterley failed to explain the complex situation unfolding in Georgia and the US' manipulation of it.
