If Cubbie Station was a humble house in the path of a freeway, there would be no please please million dollar buyout. It would be requisitioned on" this is what you get " basis from government for the greater good of a new freeway.
Lets get real about the Murray- give the girl a drink and let her live- requisition Cubbie today!

Why is Cubbie always singled out it these discussions? There are lots of irrigators in that part of Australia but not all of them are as careful as Cubbie in how they use the water they have. I've no argument with the notion that water should not be harvested from this catchment in such volumes. But how about some credit where credit is due? At Cubbie they concentrate on using the water they have very efficiently. Irrigators everywhere can learn from the practices at Cubbie Station.

You Mr Keane are a master of the extreme. You claim that the Rudd Govt has done more on this issues than all previous Governments. But in fact whatever the Howard Govt desperately wanted to do was hugely derailed by the selfishness of the Labor states - so not much happened.
Now the Rudd Govt has done more you say. What?? SET UP A REVIEW - another one, this time to be audited. Big deal!!!
You say that the Govt is "refusing to come at compulsory acquisition" so after all the B----t what will actually happen - NOTHING. When will Rudd and Wong get serious about something - anything!!!

Compare the difference - Howard implements the federal gun buyback scheme early in his first term in response to a national outcry. Rudd has commonwealth constitutional power to take a lead as per the Franklin River issue - and what do we get? Jelly back.

sorry? a strong perception? the reality is stark. so easy to hide behind academic posturings. the murray is at the death. i suppose the artificial concepts of it being a state (SA) issue is convenient for apologists for eastern australian rednecks. city folk on the eastern seaboard choose to ignore the issue, obviously through parochial greed. it was the one issue they couldn't agree on for federation. i wish we hadn't joined. the challenge for south australia is to become self-reliant for water, but it will take as long again to forgive nsw, qld and vic for their disgusting disregard for adelaide's water. how would you like it if we spewed toxic gases into the atmosphere to waft over you? why? industry! up yours
