Sorry I forgot an important question, I do not know what products come from either America, or China that are more fuel efficient than Australian cars, mostly big V8's from US, and not much that complies with Australian standards from China, but agree that some european cars are very fuel efficient

The Bracks review could have been written many days and/or weeks before Bracks was actually appointed for being the good Labor boy he is.............and $70 million of our money is not nearly enough for Toyota shareholders.

Expect porkbarrelling on a hitherto unprecedented scale (except in Iraq, Marilyn) 2 years from now......

Marilyn - give me $3 billion and I would be happy to employ 64,000 people in a loss-making business

The sooner the Australian car manufacturers pick up there game or are eliminated - the better.

There is no way we can justify the farmers. They shoot, loot and destroy the land. Look at the video yesterday about our precious farmers getting permits to shoot our Black Swans. The farmers take, and rape, then scream like stuck pigs when the battered environment strikes back at them.

I really don't understand why people are concerned about jobs in the car industry. It appears to me that we import, every year, people to work in the car industry, why? Is it because the minute these immigrants have children they want to improve themselves? Good, I'm all for that, at least someone cares about education as opposed to the footy. Excellent. You won't find too many home grown Australians wanting tertiary education.
Why do you think there are scarcely any Asian labourers? Because their parents made sure the kids didn't get side-tracked by the foody. Sometimes there is justice.

Inshallah. Peace be with you!

There is no doubt that it is important that cars are made as inexpensive as possible to the Australian consumers, however what about a little thought about Australian jobs.
The Australian Manufacturers have to compete with very, very low pay rates internationally, and in a lot of countries they are simply not allowed to sell their vehicles, even with the high tarriffs that these countries ( with low wages) impose.
It will be a lot more than the 64,000 jobs (suggested in Marilyn's email) when all of the Australian factories close, because it appears that even the party that appeared to support the workers, have deserted them. We should all ask What industry will be next?

Yeah, market economics has all the answers doesn't it? Look at the US experience. Cars made in Mexico where the workers are exploited and they poison their populations with the heavy industry, but boy the cars are cheap aren't they?

Why don't we just buy Tuna from Thailand where they over-fish, send sewerage into the waters, but boy the fish is cheap isn't it??

Why don't we just buy electronics from China, where they murder and oppress their population, grossly pollute the environment, promote a completely disposable culture in countries they sell too...oh wait we already do that.

If people like Bernard have their way, the only thing done in Australia will be to dig stuff up and run Cafes, and I'm fairly sure we're about to find the African nations will do the digging "cheaper" (there's that word again) but ruin their countries in the process.

Well there are 64,000 jobs to consider and at least they make something. How do we keep justifying propping up farmers during drought for years on end with billions of dollars when they are producing nothing at all.

Bombing Iraq made nothing, locking up children cost billions and we have nothing to show for it except thousands of damaged kids.

I could continue but I think you get my drift.
