Perhaps you need to have worked as a political staffer at some point to fully appreciate The Hollowmen, but as far as I'm concerned it's at least as good as Frontline ever was. Last night's episode again played out a scenario which, for all it's unlikelihood, has been replicated in real life. The silliness around the marketing of budget initiatives and the need to be seen to be big-spending without actually being big-spending is precisely what gave us the Howard Government's 'Future Fund', which has been the subject of some great analysis by Stephen Mayne on these pages over the last few years. The harder you look, the more there is to this show.
