The catholic church does not have “a core message of love” unless you mean for their ‘after-life’. You can’t truly love other people when you actively lobby against their freedom to choose a secular life.

Matt, it could be argued, quite easily, that ‘society’s least pleasant and dumbest people’ includes politicians. Downer, Costello, Iemma, Costa, Neal….. need I go on?

My heart didn’t respond in any way to the Mary Mackillop bizzo, but I would be amused to see an Aussie get a guernsey as Pope. Pope Bruce, or perhaps Pope Trev, Wayne or Chook would be a refreshing change.

I agree with most of what you say- however; ‘Society’s least pleasant and dumbest people’? Let’s leave football out of this and concentrate on the politics.
