Dear Eleri: Thanks for your article about Xt3, I am the priest who answers the questions on the Ask a Priest group, and am also a subscriber to Crikey! I just wanted to update your information on the number of users of the site, it is now a bit over 20,000, not the 7,000 you mention. Thanks

Dear Dave: I don't have any inside information, but all I have heard and read suggests this was just an initiative of the state government, and not something requested by the Church. After all, whatever you may think of Cardinal Pell, if one thing is clear it's that he is not afraid of getting out there and having an argument. It is, however, a good idea to distinguish between those who want a genuine debate and to raise objections, and others who are just out there to insult and denigrate. Naturally, they are fee to do this, but wouldn't it be better if they were open to debate rather than than just insulting?

Hey Fr John Flynn, since you're in the mood for answering questions, can you shed any light on the origins of the 'Thou Shalt Not Annoy' legislation? Was it the bully-boy NSW government cracking down on civil liberties in a most un-Christian manner all on its own, or did the Catholic Church actually request these laws to minimise inconvenient protests from folks with legitimate opinions about Catholic doctrine and/or legitimate gripes about the church's conduct in various controversies (eg priest abuse)? Sure, it's a loaded question, but then the laws were so out-there that they couldn't have had a straightforward, legitimate origin.
