I think women journalists get a hard enough time getting and keeping their
jobs as it is. I don't think they need your sexism (ie Satin Watch) to add to their woes. Why not humiliate male weather men just to keep a token balance.
Kate Allan

Oh God please don't tell me that the managers at 10 will be heartened by still mediocre ratings - the viewers want BB off the air.

Euthanise it, its few viewers and Tim Clucas. Now.

I enjoyed Hollowmen, but then I'm a former (low level) political staffer myself so perhaps I had a more immediate sense of relating to the various characters than Steve Cooke. If they're anything like the folks I used to know, there's not much character to develop, particularly in the Rob Sitch character - he's overly obsessed with his job, much more talk than action, has never had a 'real' job and has made a career out of looking slightly clever and putting up with megalomanicial political masters (this is his real talent, putting up with impossible demands without even noticing it). My favourite line was about the 'Food Producers of Australia' had merged with the sugar and beverage producers group and changed their name to the 'Nutrition Council'! Great satire.

The talk before last night's debut of Hollowmen was how they produced the show in 4 weeks. It showed - no character development and no exploration of obvious themes. Yes, we know the industry is cynical and keen on a headline, but the Working Dog team didn't show us anything else. It may have worked when they produced Frontline and there was less coverage of the machinations behind current affairs in that era but it's a new ballgame now and viewer want more. The most glaring weakness was Rob Sitch's character - an inept boss reminiscent of Rain Man. Who is he supposed to be? I looked forward to it for a fortnight before but I won't be tuning in again.
