I actually thought BB acquited himself well yesterday. Of course he had the comfort (alluded to in the article) last election of knowing that he was not entering government and so could comfortably oppose the Howard tax cuts. Unlike Rudd who although he was a mile ahead in the polls still could not quite believe it and so the 'me-tooism' tax cuts. BB's focus on household efficiency is actually excellent stuff. Bravo!
I agree with Bernard Keane that they must now enter the real world and start to behave as a significant political party and give up on granstanding. If they do, I suspect they will have MP's in the next HOR.

Bernard, the Greens could just offer families candles, big ones, one for each room in the house! Why not? Think of all those romantic dinners mate.
Policy purity indeed! And all those extra candle making jobs when the coal industry shuts down and that 'Warmist 'nirvana is achieved. I'm just not sure who is crazier. You or a cut rattle snake?

The polemics against Bob Brown and the Greens for putting up ideas and saying they are not acceptable on the grounds that they cannot implement them is cheap politicking. In comparison, the actions of both the government and the Liberals look like a scene from ‘Hollowmen’ or ‘Yes Minister’ as both desperately seek ways of solving the problem without causing anyone, most of all themselves, pain.
Let it be known, there is no way to solve this problem without it costing some economic pain. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, one cannot solve the problem by pandering to the same people who collectively created the problem in the first place.
Hang on. A fair, reasonable and thoughtful assessment of the Greens as a political force, not a fact-free tirade about pseudo-religious luddite hypocrites? In Crikey? Things sure have changed since i slipped into that year long coma about this time last year.

Next you'll be telling me the Libs chose oh I dunno Brendan Nelson or somesuch....

Bob Brown's office has pointed out that the Greens opposed both the current and previous rounds of tax cuts. That would probably cover the range of Green commitments outlined by Sen Brown yesterday.

Gunns Pulp Mill in Tasmania that Peter (the used to have morals) Garret sanctioned is as good as dead, the Greens won't allow any legislation that Labor wants to pass through Parliament unless this project is knocked on the head pretty quickly, investment banks know this and won't back it so it's dead, that's at least one thing the Greens can say they will have achieved.
