The last oil shock a book by a UK Journalist (Strahan I think) puts forward the issues facing the world with the peak of carbon based fuels. I highly recommend the book. It also highlights a form of carbon trading scheme called Tradeable Energy Quotas (TEQ's) that involves the allocation of an energy quota per person that is used when a person uses carbon emitting energy.
