I dunno about "stuffed" - the tension about whether Chris Guccione can set a world record for the number of times he gets "bundled out" in the first round is nail-biting stuff!

Nogthing could've spoiled Sunday night's final, but Newk'n'Fiery did their level best with those kids' doubles updates. Please, it's late, and we are watching Proper Tennis. Is there any need to pretend we care about the boys' doubles? Also, Lleyton Hewitt has done himself no favours with the meeja, who, in a vacuum, would've loved nothing better than to lionise him.

Come on Charles, at least get your facts right about Laura Robson if you're going to spout off about the state of Australian tennis (not that I disagree with you, though!)

9 months doesn't equal six years, regardless of what type of mathematics you use!

Just under 50% of the top 100 women are from Eastern Europe, Russia and the Balkans. Why doesn't Tennis Australia say, "Gee, they must be doing something right -- let's send a player development team over there and find out what it is." ?

The debate raging about child exploitation on other Crikey articles clearly doesn't extend as far as the sport pages. You're actually complaining that not enough Australian kiddies are forced to spend hour after hour honing their tennis serves? Let them enjoy their youth and not merely become exploited by fans and the media. I still recall the Adelaide Advertiser's appalling treatment of Lleyton Hewitt (they insisted on referring to his having 'called Australian tennis fans stupid' for months after he happened to mention that a couple of fans at the Australian Open were a bit loudmouthed) as a teenager. Hardly surprising kids aren't putting their hands up for this kind of treatment.
