Well may the Federal Nationals Leader, Warren Truss, have enjoyed a big victory in the Gippsland By-Election. He certainly worked hard at it, travelling all that way to hand out how to vote cards at the Yallourn North polling booth as part of a team of dozens of the Party faithful working the booth on the day (including at least two Victorian National MPs)

I dont think the Gippsland outcome was ever going to be any different. The Nationals could have lined up a team of stuffed dummies to hand out HTV cards - they would have still romped in.
This is a seat with 4 National Party reps (or their predecessors) over the past 90 years.
With the traditional swing away from Government, a highly conservative electorate and a Labor candidate not playing the usual National Party sport of pork-rorting, the socialists were always going to cruise home.
