I just want to point out that prior to the introduction of the GST and the reduction of the alcopop taxes the good old Stoli and other pre-mixes were made with wine based alcohol rather than spirits, to keep the costs down. Increasing the tax on spirits in RTD's in line with the tax on a bottle of spirits makes sense in terms of keeping equity with the taxes but not as a deterrent to reduce binge drinking. For that someone's going to have to tackle the lower alcohol tax on beer and wine.

the liquor industry is just doing its anti-social job of pouring its highly profitable drug down the throats of teenage girls, many of whom are under-age. What else can you expert from them? And what else can you expect from their puppets in the Murdoch press, which benefits from millions of dollars worth of booze advertising revenue a year and can then sensationalise the bloody results the next day?. And it is entirely predictable that the unprincipled doctor who heads the Liberal Party would take distillers' political donations and join them in their grotesque campaign. But for Senator Family First and the Greens to join this alliance is reprehensible. I hope they wake up, and quickly.
