Maybe we need to replace our existing political institutions with a benevolent dictatorship with Miriam Lyons at the helm? As we've seen over the last 20 years in Australia, reformist governments willing to take hard decisions need outstanding leadership or they get voted out and replaced by media-friendly do-nothings. It's fundamental to democracy that governments get replaced and renewed, but many elections today seem to be a race to the bottom rather than a sensible and informed exchange of ideas. Law and order policies, anyone?
