Hard to see the rentseekers from the ABC and the rest of the institutional media development players - AFTRS etc, making much of a contribution whether web 1.0 or web 2.0 based on their track record to date. They have served their own constituencies well but have been largely irrelevant to the wider online industry/community.

The important role that the BBC has played in the development of online in the UK was based on well funded big idea intenral technical projects rather than content production and extensive outsourcing to the wider online creative development community.

And during all this soul seeking from the ABC, what role has Board member Albrechtsen played I wonder. As she fills her blog in the Australian with anti Rudd, anti Labor jibes, loose talk, fairy stories and jibber jabber just can see her demanding more money from the Government. Something she never asked for under her mentor Howard. Be interesting to get a poll from ABC staffers on how they rate her as a Board member!!!!

The issue will become clouded if the funding authorities see Web 2 as an alternative to, rather than as a complement of, current delivery channels, which serve the entire population. At the moment, only a small proportion can afford the necessary bandwidth.

Kim Dalton is right on the money about content. Without additional product, the new channels will either replicate or dilute what is already available.

Nicholas Gruen is right on the pulse...at the NECC today in San Antonio, 13,000 educators heard the opening keynote describe how the intelligence and decision making of large diverse groups is greater than the sum of its parts. The potential for the model Nicholas Gruen describes is not only unique in the world, so far, but is clearly the way web2.0 is taking 'us'.

those that are connected anyway...
the reality is despite current and previous governments lack of understanding and commitment, Australians lead the world in many( most) aspects of online activity.

this will continue, and could accelerate, with some sponsored support.

one can only hope..then there is climate change..a real toughy!
