I am unwilling to make Saudi sheiks even wealthier than they are now but overall the price rises are a good thing. Besides the very important carbon reasons discussed above higher petrol prices are essential to cut motoring in our cities and make them more liveable. Congestion taxes are also essential and it is typical of the craven backwardness of NSW Labor that they were rejected with insulting redneck references to ivory tower academics.

So, the US is saying the price is not up because of speculators,
The Saudis are saying the price is up because of speculators.

Wouldn't that mean that the current high prices are due to
a 2.5 million barrels a day production shortfall?

Why wouldn't addressing a glaring problem in the supply side of
the equation take the pressure off oil prices?

Why shouldn't the americans pump oil from their own territory?
