Haneef wont pursue this any further, he also wouldn't come back here if he were given the chance. He's relatively safe in India but he's had a big shakeup and we can thank the diligence of our AFP for shining a light into part of his world.
We'd really have something to complain about if he'd not been investigated thoroughly. He did attempt to flee the country without informing his employers or anyone else. To quote the Bard " Methinks he doth protest too much"

Can anyone take state or federal governance seriously anymore? Greg's script is surely just the next episode in “Parliaments Unplugged” starring former PM John Howard and Member for Menzies, Kevin Andrews. You can only say that the last few years have been one helluva season as riotous dog-gone administrations bring value-added entertainment to millions of working Australians. Stuff Big Brother or A Current Affair. There is more intrigue and heartache in the halls of power than on the streets of San Francisco (sounded better than Lygon and Oxford)! But honestly the burlesque spilling from our parliaments right now would eclipse any big budget movie or television drama (is radio still around?) that Australia’s ever produced. It’s a sure bet the public gallery in the WA parliament is packed with sticky beaks wanting a glimpse of ‘Sniffer’ Buswell and his house-mate ’unfettered-sex Logan’. Neal’s an instant draw card on a sub-zero Canberra night and any smart entrepreneur would’ve made a killing whenever Beattie and Rose entered the House. It’s high time we made government profitable and at five bucks a throw we could pay for professional governance while this lot party on in their own backyards. By the way, I really do hope Haneef sues Howard and Andrews. Someone has to send our self-serving political players a very strong message.

If Haneef could bring a personal liability case against Andews then he should. There certainly would be no shortage of Howard-hater funds to pay for it. I think it gets down to proving that Andrews mislead the australian people wilfully. He deported him as an undesirable on the basis of "information" that he did not disclose at the time in the national interest. Subsequently the Rudd government has indicated that a visa application by Haneef would likely be treated favourably. This is very disturbing. If Andrews was wilfully dishonest then Lord Steyn's criteria would presumably be met.

Dr Haneef's treatment at the hands of Howard and his conspirators in a small way helped seal Howard's defeat at the November 2007 poll. Australians had been lied to once too often by Howard. There wasn't any real evidence against the Dr no matter how disingenuously Howard and the Murdoch press continued the pretence. Thanks to some smart and particularly brave work by Haneef's lawyers the case blew up in Howard's face, the dill Kevin Andrews being left to perform the role of patsy. The case reinforced the view of Howard as the Lying Rodent, a fanatic who would do or say anything to stay in power.

No doubt Dr Haneef wouldn't think the demise of The Rodent sufficient compensation for his humiliation. Maybe a few dollars personally from Howard and Andrews might cheer him up. Wouldn't that be a fun case to watch.

A claim
