Err, sorry Miranda you've lost me. My anecdote was intended to say more about me than Della. I'm just agreeing with the suggestion that he seems like an agreeable bloke, which is far more than could be said for too many senior ALP heavyweight types.

And your encounter Dave Liberts, with Della Bosca means exactly what ?. That everything being said about them in the past week must be true ?. As I said-someone go back the kindergartens they attended and see if there is former fellow kindy kid who has a gripe with the pair. Talk about a witchhunt on steroids !

I once met John Della Bosca when I was a young, left-wing, very niaive ALP campaign volunteer in the late 90's. I said to him "Your name popped up in one of my uni lectures. We were looking at racism, and there was a quote from you that 'if you profit from racism, you are a racist' "(this comment was presumably made in the context of Hanson winning votes by dog whistling racist sentiments). I went on "That got me thinking, here we are, a country that's built on agricultural and mineral wealth, and we've all profited from the dispossion of Aborigines, so that means we're a country of racists". Della glared at me as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing, finally spluttering "Mate, I didn't mean THAT". Oh I was so niaive back then, and only marginally better now, but knowing now what I do about Della, he must have been working hard not to snot me on the spot. The tip that he's a genuinely nice bloke to his (presumably Labor Right) staff seems consistent with my brief run-in with him as an irritating lefty idiot.

And why isn't crikey chasing up the VERY IMPORTANT story that has occured but is being ignored by all the major newspapers for obvious reasons. The ACCC have concluded that Courier Newspapers and in particular, The Wentworth Courier has been conducting what amounts to a monopoly over the real estate advertising in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney-the most lucrative in Australia via a series of agreed deals that lock in agencies with kickbacks of discounts. Numerous other publications have been put out of business by trying to tackle this market including the Eastern Express a newspaper funded by unhappy real estate agents. It's taken a small independant publisher of the City News and the Bondi View to get this matter looked at only after Peter Costello beefed up the ACCC's powers. The implications are extraordinary for a newspaper chain like the Courier who have bullied their way for the past 15 years-and the question that needs answering is-why they were allowed to get awy with it for so long ?.
