Cut the subsidies if he tries that, but as for nationalisation? No way. Make it into a mutual NFP body. No, I don't know who'd want to do that, but as a taxpayer I don't want to own it. Parents should get the dollars, and decide *where* to spend them for childcare.

The only way to sort out child care is to have a "public" system as we do with schools. If you are rich or have a religious preference then pay more and send your kids private. How the hell we have allowed the care of our young to become a profit making business is beyond my comprehension what is even more shameful is that my tax dollars are being wasted on making some rich people richer. Nationalise all child care!

Yes I am one of those Childcare Centre owners in the private sector! I also walk the talk!

The Childcare industry in the private sector DO NOT receive any subsidies, the Child Care Benefits (CCB) belong to the parents and are paid to all Childcare Centres approved by the Fedral and State Govts. The Community sector also NOTE receive these payments plus do not pay any taxes, pay no rents, receive very large grants from State and Federal Govts even some receive up to 80% of wages paid by State Govt. They do though charge parents very similar childcare fees. There is a heavy over supply in Childcare centres in many parts of Australia for the older ages groups but there is serious problem with babies & toddlers due to the childcare ratios e.g 1 staff to 4 which normally means that centres have limited number of places e.g. 18, the dependant on the configeration of the childcare centre. The increased cost in this area but yes staff could be paid more but then the parents will not pay/afford and the Federal Govt over past 20 years since the introduction of CCB have refused to help subsidise this area. The Rudd Govt wants to build 260 centres (question there is a skills shortage which also means experience as well) also Childcare hubs (announced by the PM just before the 2020 meeting , Queensland Govt has announced spending $32M on just 4 hubs! The majority in an over supplied areas. The 2020 meeting did not have anyone from the private sector childcare industry. The voice of the private sector is made out to be interested only in profits, we need to make a profit so that we are able to pay the wages, rents, bank loans and carryout regular capital improvements and finally taxes imposed - yes all levels of Governments need taxes - believe it or not . There are some great examples of wonderful childcare centres both private and community that heavly invest in their staff with training which includes attending childcare conference in Australia and overseas, also paying well above that the industry awards.
