He and other like him are the reason why oil price is so high. The oil companies are the only ones that know the true price of oil but this man and his ilk use it as a betting shop thing. Why don’t they stick to the flies on the windows and leave us be.

You have cracked on something here without even acknowledging the bigger story - the reason oil prices are so high. The world consumes 85 million barrels of oil a day, and markets trade 2 billion barrels a day. Hmmm. Something’s going on here. Can’t put my finger on it. Could it be speculative traders like Phil who just want to make money? It is rather unfortunate that crikey (of all media outlets) would not try and make the connection between rising oil prices and the root cause - oil trading. The first trader to crack US$100 per barrel did it for the fame and notoriety (ie, manipulated the market to impress his grandchildren). Today, it’s about money pure and simple. China and India get the blame, but with world demand up only 4% this year, Phil has a lot to answer for.
