RE: Westfield.

If a shilling is taken to be worth 10c (as it was when we decimalised) then $1000 would have bought 2000 shares at 50c each. Which at $17.06 would be worth around $34,000. There's no need to take inflation into account because the prices are relative.

Hey, I really know where you are coming from.
But did anyone else notice that this person has two flatmates paying him rent of $1000! A week! That's quite a pad you've got there. Even if it's not yours it still says you are loaded ... unless you are living in Tamarama.
For the record the Commonwealth bank has been quite good at giving me back the money they stole from me.

Re: Westfield
If an initial investment of $1000 in 1960 has increased to $200 million over 48 years, that implies an annual growth rate of 28.95% (Do the math!) Considering that inflation was over 10% for much of this period, I find the result quite plausible. What do you think the correct answer is, O wise prognosticators of Crikey?

Bank fees.
So, what are you going to do about it? Will you just sit there and whine about how the nasty mob at NAB steal money from your account or will you move your account to a credit union? Well? What will it be?

RE BANKS

Bastards did that to me too. I had an old account that I had essentially stopped using. Bank fees kept coming out, not much, $3 a month or so, but after a while it got to $0. So, then the fee was taken out, plus $35 overwithdrawal fee. This fee created a dishonour fee.... until it was over $350 in the red. Then they had the hide to call me and request immediate payment. I declined.
