Barbaro won the 2006 Kentucky Derby - not 2000

How is 'put down' a euphamism? Ok it's an alternative to killed - but it is hardly used to hide the real meaning and is a very common term in respect of all animal deaths.

You loathe pedantic responses, and are loath to make them, eh?

I never write pedantic responses, but this time I can't stop myself:- Richard, the word you want is "loath" (as in "..the Tasmanian Government is loath to even mention.."), not "loathe". I am sure you know the difference, but someone there at Crikey does not, because this mistake appears over and over again.

Re Quote of the Day:

We may well have underestimated consumer negativity.

Hahn premium has already dropped from 375mls to 330mls so that is off my tipple list and now Cascades best brew, their pale ale is at it. So thats Cascade also gone from the beer purchases along with all other Cascade products. If the breweries are so bloody mean they resort to these slack tactics, to up their profit, then a beer drinkers only response must be boycott them. One doesnt mind imported brews in the smaller stubbie, thats the way they are imported but when Aussie brewers start this smart alec game with locally brewed beers, its not on. Heaven forbid VB join in, is nothing sacred.
