Prices would still be 5c a litre cheaper than they would be otherwise. This same mistake is through the whole issue of Crikey. Why is it so hard to understand? Of course, if you arguing that petrol companies would just increase their prices to cover the reduction, that can be prevented through the ACCC in much the same role as they had during the changeover to the GST. I heard Nelson make that statement and as he said '5 cents' the honest part of him (the body language including the voice musculature) confessed his awareness of the insignificance and folly of '5 cents' where upon the immediately following overdone effort to convince those that would feel the pain of the '5 cents' that they should strain their mental resources and feel deeply about the pain that they the struggling, whom understand perfectly, the pain of '5 cents' in the big picture scheme of things that they will feel, his words providing thus the final psychological evidence of playing carelessly and dishonestly with words and ideas that he can’t possible mean..
