The medical profession are not represented by one group and doctors are able to discern genuine research from 'spin'. Sure the pharmaceutical industry are prosecuting their case, but they are also investing alot of capital into new drug research, research that just won't happen if their is no chance of some return. Big improvements in the management of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma and arthritis are the result of this research. I also find that the opportunity to hear the big pharma reps helps me get a feel where the cutting edge in research is heading and what's possibly on the horizon for my patients.
