Underbelly isn't 'banned in Victoria'. The Victorian Supreme Court's ban (which now only covers Channel 9) is a ban on 'publication' in Victoria, not sale to Victorians. Its sole purpose is to prevent jurors from being contaminated by the (alleged) prejudice of the series. Unless you happen to be a juror in Evan Goussis's current trial, there's no plausible contempt of court in buying, selling or watching the DVDs. The distributors are pointlessly restricting Victorians' freedom of expression and - unless they see an advantage in milking the publiciity afforded by the ban - their own bottom line.

Can we please get someone with some statistical knowledge to contribute? Crikey's own Glenn Dyer has suggested viewers perhaps in the high 900,000s for Victoria had it been transmitted. That's already a highest possible figure of less than 18% of the population (based on 5.2 million Victorians), which is a HUGE difference to 70%! 70% would mean most children under 10 or almost every adult over 70 in Victoria are watching Underbelly based on Bureau of Stats population data. Besides that, Judge Betty King taught Channel 9 and other wanna-be's that they ought be more careful to try to CASH IN on crime for "entertainment". (And to the people that ask me offline - I am NOT related to the Melbourne Morans).

I agree with Conner.
This sort of headline gives Crikey NO credibility at all.
How about this....
"7 out of 10 Crikey Subscribers who responded to an online poll have seen Underbelly" (who we assume live in Victoria and only responded once)

Or ...continue with headline grabbing. We really don't care....just sick of it.
