Re the Foxtel software download without notice in prime time last night; forget Gorden Ramsey, the outage occurred smack bang in the climax of Dexter, serial killer extraordinaire.
No warning, no announcement, no pause of broadcast, no customer comms (what, why, etc). It resembled more an exercise you'd expect from a hacker using DOS interface skills. Bizarre in 2008 that something so primitive looking and amateurish in execution could be forced on unsuspecting, paying subscribers in prime time. And still no information on the Foxtel website by way of apology or explanation.

re The Age thing - the journo in question is a bloke named Manzir Mamood or something - he spends weeks or months preparing for such stories which are a mixture of the tacky and the corruption busting . ehs expoase hlaf a dozen dodgy ministers, CEOs, etc and made news.

So yes, I can see why the Age's journos would have no interest in learning from him. Why break stories when you can write ten articles about shoes?

Foxtel....yep happened in WA, very decent of them to not tell anyone. But why would a monopoly be interested in such customer care? Take the money and run after all it is a Murdoch run biz.

Isn't it time the Rudd Government took the reins on MP electorate and ministerial staff employment and removed the oppressive hire, fire and staff management powers now held by members of parliament? What avenues of appeal did ‘snedger’ Buswell’s staffers have when he snapped bra straps and buried his nose in their office chairs – none. What complaint processes are now available to Morris Iemma’s staff after he supposedly turned his office into a call centre to announce job losses for staff failing support on power privatisation? None. Isn’t it time for Gillard and Rudd to intervene on highly unhealthy arrangements permitting an MP to point the gun of job security at their staff? I thought the last federal poll sent a very clear message the electorate wasn’t compromising on fair, safe and productive workplaces. Which I presumed included MP offices. By the way, if Iemma did unfairly sack a rebel staffer would they get their union fees refunded? My experience, no!

1. Iemma picfac on Earth Hour with Clover p2 smh about 4 weeks ago! Both sincere Catholics. Meredith on "piccolo diplomacy" to Godless North Korea surely finished for her (MB reports on New Matilda).

2. Sartor is no Paul Landa RIP, but he is a loyal cranes = votes servant of the ALP Right aka war on the environment/amenity/planning norms, sadly.

3. Re Greg McLeay, if the police are wise they will drop the charges everyone walk away. Move on. Life is too short. Litigous lawyers and victimhood are an unhealthy mindset really.

Realistically neither Pooley nor Burgmann have any chance of knocking off Clover in the upcoming Sydney Lord Mayoral election. It would be hard to find anyone within the local ALP in the Sydney city area who would disagree with this. Where the idea that Burgmann would have a chance against Clover has come from I don't know - but I note Meredith Burgmann has virtually no local profile (in contrast to Pooley, who is hard working and accessible), and quite honestly has little to hang her hat on in terms of relevant achievements during her time in Parliament which she could draw upon in campaigning for the LM role.

Looks like Pooley has the LM endorsement in the bag, though interestingly Burgmann may still seek a spot on the Council ticket. It appears that the Right and part of the Left on the conference floor will not be supporting the Burg. Makes you wonder whether Pooley actually knew this when he announced his candidature a month or so ago. In any case, for reasons expressed previously, I think this is the best result for the party locally. The big challenges will be minimising damage arising from the unpopular State govt (especially Sartor planning reforms), and Verity Firth's apparent lack of interest in Council post March 2007 makes it difficult for the ALP to campaign against Clover's dual roles.
