"Prime Minister Kevin Rudd conceded yesterday that he was powerless to stop the increases just as he was powerless to prevent petrol prices soaring and grocery prices increasing" Hold on, isn't that what he blamed Honest John for and claimed that if we voted for him , he could and would change all that, eradicate the pain from us all and hold back, nay reverse the tide!

"But mommy, he promised, he promised, what next, no Santa?" Why doesn't he just admit that he is The Avenging yet Powerless Cellophane Man and that he is infact Dorothy and no longer in Brissy, sorry, Kansas. As for Toto Swan, it's just too embarrassing.

Concerning Australia's share of the Afghanistan burden

The true cost to the leader of the table - Denmark is the approximately 20% who have been coming back since the collapse of Yugoslavia from international deployments with recognized mental issues and the many who develop them later on. Sadly majority of the Canadian casualties were inflicted by a Blue on Blue incident.

The coming Commander of Danish Forces was quoted in an interview 26 April that "Defense fears for its existence". The reasons given were pay and foreign deployments. From my personal experience as an ex. officer in the reserves - the single reason is foreign deployments. (http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Indland/2008/04/26/230637.htm)

The pressure from family, friends, work (many are reservists) and the lack of recognition by society plus people having to tread on toes for weeks/months after you return from deployment are too much. Also many of the latest deployments are considered by many illegal by international

On our NSW public energy assets, yes Rudd did back Iemma way back then which is why the West/Clennell piece in the weekend SMH feature on John Robertson as head of Unions NSW (swims 40 laps every morning !?) referred to JR this way: 'I introduced Rudd to all the union heavies when he wanted to be considered for the top job' or similar words. It's on the public record JR moved against Beazley too. The article was about how he would be a king maker again if Iemma loses the issue. And my 2c worth - Robertson could have sold out with a career fillip into a seat fed or state. As Costa DID sell out on workers comp in 01-02 outrageously. But JR pushed 2IC Thistlewaite out in front so he couldn't be so obviously targetted. JR is a fit trim muscly bloke, while Costa is the opposite and not just physically.
