Bernard obviously likes being governed - i.e. being ruled over - even by an oligarchy. Keeps him in a job by giving him something to complain about - "When I said he/she should do something now and I don't mean that!" - I suppose. However, although I personally do not approve of being governed I would rather any current oligarchy hasten slowly; there is something to be said for doing nothing when you have no idea what to do.

Dear Bernard
The Friends of the ABC reckons having a staff elected director is a good idea, if only because there might be then someone on the ABC Board who knows something about public sector broadcasting. Your dismissal of the government's commitment to the idea as "sublimely stupid" says more about your own conservative views than people who think a little industrial democracy might be a good thing. Crazed Whitlamites indeed!

And by the way, get the important facts right . I drink Chai...Lattes are so twentieth century!

Best Wishes

Difficult to know what the Govt. accepts as a bottom line for "use it or lose it". ACMA's report on the Telecasting of the 2006 Winter Olympics indicated that the average delay of the telecasting of events with a couple of exceptions was 23 hours. The Minister clearly regards this as acceptable as the Winter Olympics remain on the anti-siphoning/ anti-hoarding list. Hard to know what is unacceptable.

Just another Labor Minister confirming by his lack of action that Australia was in good hands under Howard government. Beyond a couple of meaningless symbolic gestures, the Rudd government has done nothing of substance yet. The country nmust be in good shape follwing Howard era - contrary to the farcical hype from Labor's media propaganda squad.
