It's suprising that neither authors comment on dealing with co2 by means other than burying the stuff. Perhaps that is a challenge for Crikey to find an innovative non committed Australian scientist to give a few options. There are at least four out there in wonder land.

In recent months there was an article in New Scientist describing German research to use captured carbon dioxide in an enclosed environment made of transparent tubes, which with some simple organism and sunlight used photo-synthesis and generated ethanol and presumably oxygen. I forget the details, but it does point up that we need to consider other means of disposing of CO2 other than burying it.

There was also an article more recently about molecules that captured CO2 and released it under pressure reduction, which had potential to be a much less energy intensive way of extracting CO2. So we have not heard the final word on extraction methods either.

Dear Crikey,
I must take objection to the notion that a fuel source is required to obtain base load power generation. I ttok me six long years of trial and era before I produced the first working model of a base load power generator fuels by air temperature no matter be it high or low.

The horendous opposition I have received from all Government, Coal and power producers has been a real eye opener to what is being said and what realy is being done.

I now place my invention in public hands for the use of who so ever.

If I may have a Email adress I will forward all engieerings.

Sincerely Yours

Peter Mckinlay

dasenergy@bigpond.com.au

.
As I interpret the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway report of 07-08, CCS is not very safe, and ponding of leaked CO2 is indeed quite lethal.
