An old hand, a curmudgeon even ... Alan Ramsey on Saturday deliberately stayed his hand on all this kerfuffle .. but he did let out what "wankey" it was. It's about time the majority of the worthies were told - you got prostituted, some willingly. Every camera angle, every time slot, had an ALP mug in front of it. Have a look at the interim report dotted with ministers 'listening'. I watched all the coverage. Will anyone tell the truth that nothing will come from this? Does anyone else notice the con artist's tease ...just wait, just a little more time, just a little more power and nirvana will be here? Fraid not. There is a reason most Australians think holy joes and marys are off with the fairies. God helps those help themselves and happy clappies don't pull their weight in thinking or doing. It was almost laughable when Rudd talked about "core" business to the Health group. Riley Diary on 7 has been mercilessly satirising this boorishly repeated Ruddism at every outing for weeks now

Bernard. Some great ideas to improve the event. When should we schedule the next one?

So 'what's to be lost' says Rudd rhetorically. Here's a few things - outright insult of those really promoting deep sustainability reforms - no David Mills, no Dr Zhengrong Shi, no Prof Jamie Kirkpatrick, Diesendorf, Newman, Stuart White etc. What about that guy Flannagan from Tasmania - I don't think so. Secondly moral confusion. Who are the real best and brightest? What indeed is the role of Radio National expertise with record podcast downloads eg Robyn Williams on Science Show? Is that the real "best and brightest" only charter of political neutrality means they can't quite get the ALP clearly branded on? Thirdly the grotesque PR pimping of all of this talent with craven ALP wall to wall choreography? Fourthly: A big conference might be a bureaucrat PM's wet dream but the obverse of Margaret Meade's axiom applies "its only a small group of people who have ever changed the world". Ask Bill Gates and his start up mates. Or the team that invented penecillin. PM hiding in the crowd?

Gee Tom, you must have a pretty stressful life, given your willingness to find so much fault with 2020. Talk about paranoia, conspiracy theories, cynicism and just plain rancour! Why not take it at face value, welcome it as an opportunity for many people with ideas to voice them to the federal government, mix with others, maybe even meet some politicians? Why not avoid falling over yourself to prejudge everything and wait to see what finally emerges as the year progresses?. Surely that's not unreasonable.

I was prepared to be optimistic about this event, but the more I watched and heard, the more I realized what was inherently WRONG with the whole side-show. It struck me that this is what each and every politician SHOULD already be doing day after day. Taking ideas from their electorates, having the fortitude to listen equally to individuals with ideas/arguments and then being completely transparent about the results. For me this represents the ultimate admission of the breakdown of the political system and the PR/lobbying industries that are setting the agenda.
