It is reported from the US that abuse victims are meeting the Pope for “.. a private prayer meeting.” Surely this is how the problem originated? Ratzinger, as head of the Office of Inquisition, in the previous regime, was ultimately responsible for investigation, & damage control, of the charges that have since cost the Church billions so his claims of shock as risible.
Like astonished commissioners of corrupt police forces or robber baron CEOs caught out, either he is lying or incompetent.
And we are paying how much to host this sectarian shindig?

John Goldbaum has sounds like he has had nothing to with festivals any festivals. I have over many years. There are never enough billets so hotels are needed. With youth day it’s not just plilgrims the pope means the foreign press guards administrators etc. profit for hotels and restaraunts. Finally I was in Paris for a music festival three years ago. I loved it and go back there this may be generous Sydney and many of the youth day types will be back tosee the sights

To be fair, Allan, the Pope is meeting these abuse victims as adults and largely on their terms. He listened to their horiffic accounts whilst looking them in the eye. It is a cheap shot to suggest that is how the problem “originated.”
Finally Ratzinger, in his previous role, is answerable personally only insofar as he knew and failed to act. That, has not been established and in fact as I understand it, his knowledge of it, in that role, has been denied.
