To the mystery Labor MP: traditions can be new just as surely as they can be old. Even traditions have to start sometime. Rudd has a knack for the meaningless phrase, but this was not the best example. Also, “zero brine discharge” sounds oddly gross.

I haven’t been so jaded or cynical about politics since I went teetotal - which is another way of saying was that tipster about the Syd Institute do a bit bitter & p*ssed. Look what you are all forgetting is that 70% of Australians aren’t uni educators know it alls. They don’t mind the plain speak AT ALL. Howard won 4 elections. Count them. Rudd mirrored Howard’s style. He bores me a fair bit too. And his ratings are stratospheric. Who do you think he actually cares about impressing - numbskulls. Here’s a clue. It’s not me. It’s not you! But we will have our pound of flesh one way or the other. Education has got to count for something …eventually.

About time that pretentious wad of crap the ‘SBS Movie Show’ got canned - in fact, thought it had been. They are all at about the level of Fairfax critics - unknowing, unaware, thinking they’re cutting edge. Whoever green-lit it should have been axed as well.

Rudd failed to inspire! Gasp Horror! Like the former king of the meaningless motherhood statement - the one term president, Jimmy Carter, the emerging similarieties between the two are scary - Rudd needs kitsch or fey phrases to mask the lack of substance in his speeches, sorry mantras. Here is thought, how about a list of the Rudders starting with that obvious and odious “working families” (I believe Menzies first used the term - so its not only odious but plagiarised to boot) then the oft quoted “root and branch” and so on. I would like to see a list with updates if anyone is interested?

I agree with Lucy, wanting a new tradition sounds perfectly ok to me. I’m led to believe that a zero brine discharge is easily achievable with a good diet.
