The rant about the Bendigo Addy was a bit rich and toxic. As a former editor I think I have to take some of the credit/blame over the shift and leave pay confusion. About a decade ago I was part of a team which converted the newsroom to a contract basis. I'm told that no longer applies, but it's easy to see how some details may have got lost in re-translation. Interestingly, one of the reasons for the old contract system was the unconstructive approach of the then MEAA organisers. Another thing which never changes at the Addy is the high journalist turnover rate your devious insider reports. The paper attracts good young staff, gives them their head and they then get poached by other papers.
Finally, the truly venomous comments about new editor Peter Kennedy are out of line. Peter is a fine journalist. I employed him. He has cross-political support in this town but there is one snarly faction trying to scuttle his work. My professional judgement is that he's doing a great job.

Two Commonwealth Government employees speaking at a conference? Sorry, what's this issue here? That they are not supposed to "speak" in public? Complete and utter rubbish.
