I lived in Nepal with Tibetan refugees 35 years ago. I agree with Mungo’s conclusions on a sensitive issue as realistic and knowledgable which is in contrast to Crikeys silly editorial and the dancing seal. Has Rupert arrived on Crikey’s share register?

Mungo’s item is a much more realistic opinion on Tibet then most other commentators are spruiking.
I heard months ago that the real reason for China’s move to Tibet was to thwart America’s plan to set up a missile base to cover China as with Russia.

No consolation, However, last night the ABC showed the pollution of Beijing. The TV viewer will be looking through a pea soup fog and the athletes will be knocking up all over the place. It’s the equestrian events which worry me; poor bl*ody horses.

I can remember the Whitlam Government’s de-recognition of Latvia, Lituania and Estonia from advisers of a similar outlook. Within twenty years the Balts had re-established their independence from the USSR. The captive nations of the PRC may do that too.

Does Kevin Rudd has the moral authority to call for restraint by the Chinese government? No. He did not call on the Israeli government to show restraints in her treatment of the Palestinians. Why pick on the Chinese?

Even the Brits recognized Tibet belongs to China since 1906. Going back to the old ways means serfdom for the Tibetan. Land reform was the real reason for the rich and powerful(Lamas) to flee Tibet. Read Michael Parenti’s account on Tibet, free on the net
