I wouldn’t care if they did sell these dirty obsolete dinosuars to the Chinese except that they will indeminfy them against any losses due to the assets being stranded by global warming and it will all be done commercial in confidence.

Give me a break and don’t p-ss me off. I am an atheist and proud to have the guts to say so. What I am not, is a satanic, baby-devouring, sabre-toothed communist. I’d like to see Costa and Iemma get really rolled for good on privatisation though.

After the NSW Power Industry, what then? Why not just sell whats left of the lot to China, let them run Australia and be done with it. At least we could get rid of state and federal governments then.

The logic of even the Owen report is undone if it goes to an SOE. Generation and retail would remain in public hands, with all the distortions that purportedly entails. Whats worse is the thought of China building coal plants here. Its beyond ironic.

Alex — they are proposing to sell their ‘generation’ and retail businesses, not ‘distribution’ . Irrespective of that I am still waiting to hear how they explain how the value of the assets have decline from $28 billion in 1997 to $15 billion today.

Trust this govt deal making on our most critical public asset/service? Energy production underpins all of modern society: It’s profitable because everyone has to consume it. No wonder the corporate sector want to own the profitable bits. Suicidal stuff.
