Problem is that he never had the numbers. He thought it was beneath his dignity to seek support, born to rule or just too lazy. I feel it might have been a mixture of the last two.

An interesting and vigorous debut Mr Keane. Milne’s grasp of political reality (remember his strip club induced belief that Rudd was in serious trouble) is equalled only by his sensational dress sense (last seen sinking garishly into the Insiders couch).

… just to add a variation on journo as ‘player’, is the journo wanna be editor subletting his space to extensive quotations of other often worthy scribes, and Latham’s cutting put down the Meeja only know 5-10% of the total machinations. Ouch.

I went to a corporate lunch event a few years back. Hewson was the speaker. Someone asked whether Howard would hand over to Costello. Hewson: “Never. they will have to carry Howard out in a box. He will never relinquish the leadership.”

I think it was Keating who labelled Milne the poisonous dwarf, I think he was being too kind.

Milne is one of the many Murdoch hacks paid to write about nothing at all, like Bolt.
