There is some pretty convincing evidence that the ability to decide who is your head of government is integral to ensuring basic quality of life. I like the way you blame a 50 year dictatorship on something that happened in 1964, 47 years ago.

There is also pretty convincing evidence that the view the US takes of your political processes is integral to the ability to ensure basic quality of life, whether you like it or not! Cuba would not have fallen with a moderate govenrment, see Allende etc

The US interference in Latin America over many years is disgraceful. So much for “liberty and freedom”. For all Castro’s faults, I admire his courage and resolution in standing up to the US bully and outlasting all the presidents.

One should acknowledge the total picture: the Right ignores Cuba’s health and literacy triumphs, its role in the liberation of southern Africa, and its doctors abroad; & the Left forgets his totalitarian pigheadedness. His heart is in right place, though!
