Tony Papafilis give me a break! Labor lost the 96 election partly on ‘culture war’ issues, but this stuff hasn’t swung a vote in suburbia since the late 90’s. As for Ruddock undermining Howard’s conservatism??? What Australia do you live in?

All a bit tame and could have been a much shorter program. Howard was very unlikely to win but was not going to step down, and nobody else had the courage (or the numbers) to take him on. Not exactly new or ground breaking stuff.

Post 2004 it was clear that the wets were exploiting Howard’s weakness under threat from Costello to push Howard government away from its previous positions eg refugees out of detention, David Hicks, Judy Moylan & 5. Culture war won 2001 & 2004 elections
