The ex-PM couldn’t make it to Parliament today… but his mum sent an apology note.

If machine man par excellence John Howard had any doubts he got it wrong on an apology yesterday, he’s under no illusions by today, across every front page, and 5 tv channels simultaneously. Not even the Iraq war got Howard that kind of exposure.

Those who chose to turn their backs had the right to do so. To be the only living past Prime Minister not in attendance was ungracious. Had he attended he would have gained stature in my eyes and in the eyes of many others. That would have taken courage.

John, If you think I’m a lefty you are wrong and to apply an Aristotelian syllogism to your comment you are saying that there is no racist issue at hand, hmm, So of course in a tolerant society we tolerate racism, why not sexism, but they are unlawful.

A most ungracious act from a small minded bigot or a base coward. I can’t decide which applies the best.

I saw footage of Howard on one of the abc shows (Brissenden?) ‘ghost of govt past’ getting into a lift, I think it was from Canberra. What’s the machine warrior up to? It’s in his DNA. The ring of power etc …be alert not alarmed?

History was never going to deal kindly with Howard’s legacy, his mean spirited actions in office showed his character, today’s absence only show how truly deficient his character is. Good riddance, he can stay in his cultural cul de sac.

John James, I don’t “love” a nation that has people in it like you. John Howard will forever be condemned as the man who used his high office for his own personal and political gain. An utter and complete disgrace. Good riddance to him.

John - When was endorsing pseudo genocide ever a compelling reason to love a country?

Perhaps you would agree that adopting one of your children out and not telling your wife, so that another child can have more inheritance is a good and noble thing?

Is this supposed to be funny? Isn’t his hearing problem a disability. When was laughing at disabled people funny? Or is it only OK to laugh at disabled people if they become a conservative prime minister?

On John Howard’s watch, much was done to help indigenous Australians. He is correct to never bend the knee to the Blackarmbanders and their fabrication of the early history of the Australians who gave us the freedom that we now enjoy and the nation we love

Gary, it makes you happy and able to better sleep at night if the destruction of your fellow citizens who just happen to be Aboriginal continues. Looks like we also need an Anti-Racistism commission too to help all the Self loving Australians through this

Gail, the lack of grace was in those who turned their back on Dr Nelson including the Prime Ministers press secretary.Dan the nation I love allows us both to live together and respects our right to disagree. Your view is typical of the blackarmband clique

Christopher, Christopher, an Anti Racism Commission! How the left love their centralised bureacracy and their thought police! Matched only by their intellectual rigor and their love for truth, esp the historical kind!
