There is something to be said for maintaining the perimeter of a player’s personal space. An opponent touching Lee on the backside is not appropriate, and never has been. Good thing it was Lee — grope Symo’s bum and Roy would have decked him for sure.

Barns failed to mention that of all players to give evidence the only people that were believed were Indians, I never used to have make personal observations according to race, but now in this modern world I will. It works for them and pickles like Barns.

The actual Singh defence: - “M’lud. You will be aware that the Greek-based word for monkey-like is ‘simian’. In the heat of the Sydney cricket moment I said ‘Hello you fine fellow Mr Monkey, oops Mr Simian, oops Mr Symonds’ and all hell broke out. Sorry”

The ‘monkey ’ fiasco shows local cricket journos resemble types like Dennis Shanahan in their determination to avoid the bleeding obvious eg Justice Hanson’s findings. “Unreliable” is judgese for “you’re making this up”.It smells like a botched set-up.
