Have spent time myself in the communities and have come to the deeply sad conclusion that the only hope is that some of the adults there might eventually care enough for their children to get the family out to a large centre or to send the kids away.

I've watched Aboriginals being treated as NON PEOPLE. They don't exist for many Australians. Small wonder Aboriginals lack motivation to be part of the wider society. Establishing a relationship with an Aboriginal is a good starting point.

Two questions: 1. What ever happened to the Melbourne school boys who sexually abused an intellectually handicapped girl, set her hair on fire, and captured this on video for a $5 DVD late in 2006? 2. A mote in your eye, anyone?

Years of neglect and before that years of oppression have led up to this. It is like watching a train wreck in slow motion, and being helpless to do anything to help.
I am angry at our various levels of government for allowing this to happen.

After spending 36 years in law enforcement, little surprises me. It is clearly the time that the Aboriginal people accept the fact that 'they' are responsible for their kids. Not the Government, the Police, or DOCS, or the welfare. The kids parents!
