They can nix my tax cuts, with my blessings. I never wanted them in the first place and this is one election promise that should be broken ASAP. A Big Mac a week, or monthly subs to another golf club, vs recession? That's a curly one, isn't it?

With all due respect to Ross and Christian, I don't think a government in office for ONE DAY can be blamed for the worrying stats presented. Even the non-elites will understand that a new govt should be judged on how well it handles adverse conditions.

But wasn't Labor's case that China explains our economy so why worry about US bank woes? Or is this another Labor myth unravelling within days of election? New government spin not making us relaxed & comfortable; more like alert but not alarmed, yet.

Hey, Gizmo, don't feel bad about the tax cuts (asssuming Rudd delivers). You can always arrange for the tax cut amount to be transferred from your account to a charity or someone else. Though I suspect you won't do that.

Given the commentary surrounding the economy before the I'd thought this might not be a good election to win. I'd think that if the ALP were switched on, they'd be endeavouring to get on top of the public discourse surrounding this fairly quick.

The Reserve Bank's policy is not to keep inflation between 2% and 3% at all times. It wants the average over a cycle to fall within this range; a very different thing! 3-4% at the top of the cycle, 1-2% at the bottom, is fine, and meets the brief.

I agree Howard was lucky economically. Rudd may not be, as the world economy heads into possible recession. Labor will rule in the interests of capital. That could see many working families quickly ddisillusioned. This could be a oncer Government.
