Partisan bigotry aside, history will judge Costello just as it has shown the true legacy of the Hawke-Keating economic structural reforms that Peter’s term as treasurer was based on. It’s a Peter-Paul thing. Let’s discuss it in 3 years.

One of many Labor loving, socialist trained economists who protected Keating’s recession we didn’t need to have & then rightfully vanished through the early 90s when you had no answer to the mess created. Boom economy & labour shortage is to be applauded!

Howard-Costello legacy: budget in dream shape for comrades to plunder. As for impending troubles, startling how quickly the spin changes. Prior to election, signs of trouble dismissed as Lib spin. It was all good news & interest rates had to rise in Dec.

Top-level business recognises two types of CFO - the old-fashioned balance sheet accountant, adept only at balancing the books; and the modern corporation strategy executive style, using the balance sheet to grow the business. Costello was the former.

What you fail to understand Tony is that the executive has already mastered the old-fashioned style and wants to create something more. I see you admit that Costello leaves no legacy then.

Tony, you seem very keen to give Costello credit for “good economic times”. Are you also going to award him blame for the impending troubles we are apparently about to face? Or is that going to be the fault of the (2 day old) Rudd Government?

All the lazy Costello did was act as a book keeper. The previous labour governments made the important changes. Costello sponged!

Trev, don’t equate self-promoting spivs with successful business. Where’s a business that grows & survives without old-fashioned financial prudence. Gov’t is not business & don’t want it outgrowing business. Howard/Costello hold best record in Oz history!
