Tony, I’m probably making a mistake trying to explain this to you but here goes, It was a joke. Heffernan wasn’t joking (again a genetic thing). The larger point was the vacuousness of this pair, their complete lack of political and policy fertility.

That Ken and Barbie have been elected to the Liberal leaders creates a genealogical conundrum. Due to a manufacturing fault both are competely incapable of reproducing. A once great lineage of plastic people may be no more. A bit sad really.
